Burnie Glacier Chalet

Dates: March 6-13, 2009

The Burnie Glacier Chalet is a modern post and beam style chalet that offers all the charm of a European mountain hut. Chalet ammenities include electric lights, a sauna and a spacious common area.

Located in the Howsons Range of
northwestern British Columbia this chalet provides access to some of the best ski touring in Canada.
The snowpack is similar in depth and quality to the Selkirk Mountains (home to Battle Abbey and Sorcerer Lake Lodge where Mountain Ascents also hosts trips).
The Burnie terrain is suitable for strong intermediate to advanced skiers and includes steep tree skiing, alpine and glaciated skiing, and lots of opportunity for big alpine tours.

Chalet access is via helicopter from Smithers, B.C.

Cost: $1875.00 Cdn plus 5% GST. This price is all-inclusive, including helicopter flight, food prepared by a professional chef, accommodation and guiding services).

Trip Information
& Logistics
March 06-13, 2009

Travel Logistics
  • Burnie Glacier stages from the town of Smithers, British Columbia. The
best way to get to Smithers is by an international flight to Vancouver, B.C., followed by a domestic flight to Smithers. Air Canada and Hawk Air offer
daily flights from Vancouver to Smithers.
  • The flight from Vancouver to Smithers is less than two hours. For guests who have skied with Mountain Ascents before (at Golden, B.C.-based ski lodges), total travel time from Vancouver to Smithers is less then flying into Calgary and driving to Golden.
  • No rental car is required as you fly directly into Smithers. A short taxi ride takes you to downtown Smithers where all amenities are within walking distance.
  • Meeting place for the start of the trip will be at the Stork Nest Inn located in central Smithers (meeting time to be announced closer to date of trip).
From the Stork Nest Inn, we will arrange transportation to the helicopter staging area.

Day Prior to Trip
  • We recommend you stay in Smithers the night prior to your trip to avoid delays in the morning due to weather or possible road closures.

Travel to Staging Area
  • Transportation to the helicopter staging area will be provided.

Helicopter and Baggage
  • Baggage restrictions: 30 lbs per person (not including skis) – please pack lightly. Pack gear in two smaller duffel bags rather than one large one (these fit easier into helicopter). Ski bags will not be flown into lodge (reduces bulk
    in ski basket).
  • In the unlikely event that the helicopter cannot fly to the chalet on
Friday, March 6th (due to poor weather), guests are responsible for their
own accommodation and food in Smithers.

Alcoholic Beverages
  • If you want it, bring it. Beer cans and wine boxes work best.
